Week 5 and it’s been forever.

There are so many things on my mind, so much input. I feel like its swirling and taking me down!

The politics, the treasury, the freak out, the people on planes to Gitmo. I get frazzled and can’t concentrate. Bad news stories are appearing faster than Fibonacci’s Rabbits. Just looking at all those equations makes my eyes cross.

I remember to breathe, light a candle, breathe some more and move my mind elsewhere. A few elsewheres I’ve been this week…

We got a self cleaning litter box, so I’ve been monitoring and seeing who’s pooping and peeing in the new box. It’s all very exciting. The app tells you how long the cat stayed in the box, how much it weighs in the box and how many cleanings it’s done. Fabulous.

I got a new journal for tarot cards. I usually only pull one a day and let that be my wisdom for the day, but this journal offers space to write about three cards. I was getting a little disillusioned with three cards a day. I don’t feel comfortable assigning meanings to them other than the meanings they are. For instance, a three card spread might be Problem, Cause, Solution, or Strengths, Weaknesses, Advice, or Mind, Body, Spirit and the cards don’t easily fit into these three themes for me. So, I decided for the week, I would let my cards tell me a story, beginning, middle, end. Monday, the story was about someone who has a crazy imagination and is looking for facts. Today, it was a story about someone in an unhappy relationship who has to value themselves and as a result of breaking up, finds someone who shares their same goals and values. I’m having a lot of fun with this one.

I am still working on my copy cat story. I’ve been using two stories and I’m stuck not knowing how to create something that’s similar. The first story is There’s a Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella and the second one is Spar. Both are very short. One is about acceptance, the other is about fighting back and winning. Both are visceral. I love that both protagonists are questioning what is happening to them, both are in situations that are horrible, and both seem to go through a very human trauma response. And still, I’m not sure what to copy. But it’s fun to read and reread and analyze.

Thinking I will try to use my tarot pulls to copy one of the stories, but we shall see.

I watched the Grammy’s on Sunday and it was super fun. I really like music. sometimes I forget and then the Grammy’s come on!

One of my favorite performances was this one, Doechii who won best rap album. I also loved seeing Shakira perform (hot!) and dedicate her win to immigrants, who I am terribly worried about right now. And BRAVO BEYONCE! It was nice to see so many of the performers and musicians holding up art as a way to make it through hard times and bring people together.

Which reminds me of this, which was just released in paperback. Time to crack it back open and read some good advice from one of my favorite story tellers. Charlie is a trans woman who is one of the kindest people I’ve met.

She and Annalee Newitz have a great podcast called Our Opinions are Correct where they discuss stories, space, science and popular geeky culture. I highly recommend it!

Well, that’s about it for my week. I know it’s not terribly fascinating or cohesive, but here we are, with mash brains because of the stupid in our worlds that we can’t control. Next week will be an exercise in creating to beat brain melt. Be kind to yourself and the people you meet.

Last photo just for fun.

Peace!
